Thank You Note: A Lost Art
Do you like this story?
In the fast paced life of today, people have almost forgotten the impact of a handwritten thank you note. All we see these days is emails or text messages, worst still; many people don’t even bother that. There are a bunch of people who are in no habit to even utter the word thank you.
There’s always a time when an email, text message or even a phone call doesn’t do enough to show how thankful you are to someone and you need something more for that. That’s the right time to give them a handwritten thank you. There’s no nicer way to say it. It will stand out and be memorable for the receiver. Those who receive will certainly appreciate the consideration, time and effort that you have put into the note.
A thank you note can be used to express your thankfulness for a gift, a kind deed or even someone sharing their time with you when you needed them to. A heartfelt hand written thank you note is the right way to make someone feel their hard work acknowledged.
Sending the thank you note to desired person should be done as soon as possible. If you get your note in the mail the next day, it’s best but don’t get late because it doesn’t look very appropriate to thank for something that has long past.
You don’t need a full size paper to write a thank you. The appropriate way is to write on a small paper note or a small folded card. If you have the notes on hand, it will be easy to quickly jot down some words but if you have to get a paper note first then it’s less likely for the note to get written and posted. Always, keep a stash of thank you notes.
The structure of a thank you message is simple. You don’t need any flowery language but also don’t just write a plain informal sentence. Always, greet the giver in person. Seeing their name on paper will feel them more appreciated. You just need a few meaningful sentences to thank them. Start by expressing the appreciation for the gift and then saying thank you. Let them know how much you appreciate their thoughtfulness. Add a sentence to suggest them getting together again. Do remember the note is for them and it should be centered on them. Write the way you talk.
It’s easy to write a thank you note and it’s an important gesture. Your thank you note might be unexpected. It may spread a smile across recipient’s face and brightens up their day.
Keywords: thank you note, thank you, note, gesture, appreciation.
