Love Thyself
Do you like this story?
The most important relationship one ever nurtures is the one with his own self but many people themselves are their own worst enemies. They let people walk over them. They put other people’s needs before their own. They keep giving to others without giving to their self and eventually they will run out of energy and won’t be able to do anything for anyone. They might later be bitter about the consequences they are going to face.
Loving yourself means accepting yourself for who you are right at the moment, and not who you were in past or who you might become in future. It means self-acceptance. One might not be able to like or love some aspects of his self but they can accept them as a part of their self. Once they accept, they can start the healing process.
Self-love means seeking an ever-growing sense of balance in you. It is about decreasing self-doubt and self-disapproval. It involves responsibility for yourself, feeling good and giving yourself respect. Pushing away the pains that come your way make you feel miserable, whereas, experiencing this pain, acknowledging this experience and accepting it means you’re loving yourself because your well being is in experiencing an emotion in a healthy way. Your well-being matters to you when you love yourself.
Once you have decided to love yourself, you need to take good care of yourself and treat yourself with kindness. This involves your emotional and physical needs. Are these needs met properly and on regular basis? What do you feed yourself? Did you have enough sleep? What do you say to yourself? How you treat yourself? You need to treat yourself in the same way as you do those whom you love.
While going through our life, we experience many things that upset us. The disturbance that we face might be little or at times it lasts for years and somehow become a part of us. Sometime we feel unable to surpass the impact of those events and we end up suppressing our emotions inside. We often do not come up to the expectations of others and often fail in life. We shouldn’t beat ourselves up for our shortcomings rather we should try to make our self better. After having an argument, sometimes you wonder why it happened. When we are lost in life, we often forget to love ourselves, which results in bitterness and resentment.
Another important part of loving yourself is forgiving yourself. Everyone has done the things they are not proud of. No one is perfect and human makes mistakes all the time. Dwelling on feeling guilty about a situation never helps. You need to learn from your mistakes and forgive yourself.
Keywords: self love, love, acceptance, well-being.
