Set Yourself SMART Goals
Do you like this story?
Each person dreams of attaining success and in order to achieve success people set themselves goal that will impel them to move forward. Our goals lead us in the right direction for success and achievement. Most people don’t know how to set goals or they don’t follow an effective procedure, hence, they keep failing to achieve their goals.
If you are setting goals by merely telling yourself that you would exercise or you will start writing without the specifications like when, how, where, then you are already setting yourself up for a failure. Without the specifications you don’t have a clear picture in your mind hence you will never achieve your goals or you might lose the motivation to follow it in the very start. There are ways to improve the chances of keeping your goals and making them successful.
SMART goals are the most common and successful type of goal setting technique. It has five points that you need to care for while setting yourself goals.
Your goals have to be Specific. A specific goal means describing some of the details of your goal. For example, if you are planning to exercise then being specific means set yourself a location for exercise, a type of exercise. Use positive affirmation like I will lose 5 pounds of weight by the set amount of months. They will have a positive impact on your goals.
Your goals have to be Measurable. You need to measure you goal because if you cannot measure, it might never get finished. If you have set a measurable goal then by the deadline anyone can come and see the outcome, if you have completed your goal. For example, you want to save a $500 in three months is a measurable goal.
You must create Attainable goals. Unfortunately a lot of people set themselves unattainable goals. In this case they never reach their dreams and this becomes very de-motivating for them. Setting yourself a goal of becoming a millionaire in two or four months is a highly unattainable goal.
The goals you set for yourself must be Relevant. A relevant goal will ensure that you are dedicating your efforts in the right direction. The goal should be related to you, your field or anything in the world that is related to you. If you set yourself a goal of attending as many writers’ workshop while you are a doctor, it’s not doing to do you much good.
Finally, the goals should care for Time factor. Set a time frame that make you get started right now and also allows you to work comfortably till the deadline. Never set yourself a goal of writing a book in a week.
