Flowers surround us everywhere and sometimes in certain situations it is hard to tell if its real flowers or it’s artificial flowers. People love to have flowers in their habitats, because it makes the environment more pleasant, colourful and completes the decoration of a specific place. In places where natural flowers are impossible to grow, or it is not suitable the artificial flowers ornament and beautify that spot with all its elegance and different colours.

Artificial flowers were known to the people since the ancient times, Egyptians were using artificial flowers made of painted canvas or stained horn, in South America people were using wax and shells, Romans were using silver and golden flowers, In China they were using silk flowers. Even in modern days the largest exporter and manufacturer of artificial flowers is China. The mass production started in the 1980’s in China and since than has speeded all around the world, making the artificial flowers dear ornaments from America to India. Modern artificial flowers are made out of many different materials, from coloured canvas and silk, to wax and soap, clay, glass, plastic, polyester, paper, nylon stockings, etc. The list of materials can be endless if one has lush imagination and let it go wild and one can made artificial flowers even out of wood and cigarette packs.

People like artificial flowers because they last longer and they do not need attention and care as the natural ones, only occasional dusting. Another reason is that artificial flowers are usually very chip unless they are made out of glass, wood or clay which makes them more expensive, thus because the materials and the process for making them is more costly. Making artificial flowers can be a very interesting hobby and craftsmanship, which for some inventive people has become even a regular business. Artificial flowers can be used anywhere for any occasion and most of the time they are really long lasting, without loosing the shape or the colour. You might definitely call them timeless.

Artificial flowers made from fabrics or paper might loose the colour after very long time, but artificial flowers made from wood, glass or clay can be really eternal if not accidentally broken. Artificial flowers stand alone in decorations or bouquets or combined with natural flowers, dry flowers and other ornaments.

Artificial flowers are widely used for wedding decorations. A whole wedding starting from the little flowers that the guests and the groom are wearing on their revers, to the bride’s hair, dress and other parts of the bridal wear. Bridesmaids also wear artificial flowers, all table decorations might be maid out of artificial flowers, as well as the wedding cake which will have artificial flowers made from chocolate, marzipan or other eatable ingredients.
