In Feng Shui and around Asia it is believed that they bring good luck. Wind chimes can be made from many different materials and in many different shapes. The traditional type has tube shapes hanged around a circle. The tubes might be made out of metal, wood, bamboo or other materials. Other materials like shells, glass, porcelain, clay and any other material that can produce sound can be used to make wind chimes.

They produce enharmonic sound. The frequency of the wind chimes is determined by the length, width, thickness, and the material that is used. It is believed that when wind chimes are used in a proper manner, they can be a powerful tool to attract money, friends, good health and harmony in the family.

Wind chimes are widely used in Feng Shui to stimulate the natural flow of Chi or the energy which is around us, and to remove any obstructions that might be the cause for problems for the family members or the house occupants. It is also important to choose the right wind chimes and the right position for them. Large wind chimes can be good for outside but smaller are more suitable for indoor usage. The sound is the most important feature of the wind chimes and the sound they produce has to be pleasant for the people who live in the house. The metal wind chimes are most effective in producing penetrating sound and for circulating the Chi. Pottery and wooden wind chimes are also used and are used for treating specific problems.

For example, wind chimes made of pottery are good to calm the Chi of the south if it’s considered too active. Wind chimes have to correspond with the element of a certain area. For example, the east and southeast are connected with the wood energy, and so to activate the Chi energy in the most effective way in this area you should use wooden wind chimes.
