How The Olympics Is Helping Tunisian Hospital Patients
The hospital beds used in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games have been donated to hospitals in Tunisia, it has been revealed.
Over 300 beds were utilised as part of English film director and producer Danny Boyle’s spectacular show that signalled the return of the biggest sporting event to London for the first time since 1948.
Boyle used the beds as part of a sequence that paid tribute to the National Health Service and Great Ormond Street Hospital. To make the beds suitable for Tunisian patients, 15 volunteers will take the time to remove LED lighting, batteries and wiring.
The donation will not only provide Tunisian hospitals with a significant financial saving but, more important, help their patients to ultimately improve their health. ‘Why is that?’ you may ask.
It is important to recognise that the right type of bedding and accompanying mattress can do wonders for your health and general well being – not something that is widely acknowledged. Below are just some the reasons that you shouldn’t just buy cheap beds.
Stress relief
A lack of sleep – brought on by cheap mattresses or cheap wooden beds – can significantly affect your stress levels. Conversely, a good night’s sleep will help ease those every day pressures and leave you refreshed and relieve any anxiety or tensions you may have.
Back support
Quality bedding helps relax the contours of the body which, in turn, reduces back pain and other types of body pains.
Weight loss
You might be surprised to learn that a good night’s sleep, produced by a comfortable bed, will help with weight loss. Because sleep regulates levels of gherlin and leptin, hormones that affect your hunger levels, investing in a decent will lead you to making smarter eating choices during the day. These hormones can also promote and encourage more regular exercise.
Anti-aging
When in a deep sleep, your body temperature decreases. This results in energy being able to concentrate on rejuvenating tissue, growth and repair.
Better memory
Sleep has been proved to help relax the brain’s frontal cortex which ultimately helps to absorb and process the information we’ve learned during the daytime. For youngsters especially, it’s crucial to get the correct bed setup.
Better health
Your natural immune system modulators increase with the amount of quality sleep you receive. This means that your body is much more likely to fend off illnesses quickly and effectively.
