Here is the film review and reports of the new Malayalam film Puthiya Theerangal directed by Sathyan Anthikad and starring Nivin Pauly and Namith Pramod from the facebook page housefull.
Director Sathyan Anthikkad treads through his usual path of family saga with a mix of melodrama, clichéd lines and all the ingredients in the formula, yet again. That's the first thing which comes to your mind as you watch his latest film, ‘Puthiya Theerangal’.Yes, there is an okay storyline here and the film has its moments for sure, but the problem is the old-fashioned way it has been packaged.
The film is happening by the seaside. The story is focused on the life of a young girl named Thamara, who lives on her own at the shore, after the death of her parents. Sometime later she finds an old man and she feels like having got her father back.
The set-up is neat, the lead characters mildly engaging, the jokes and old songs. The build-up is slow, but you wait patently, hoping that it will lead to something extraordinary, a climax worthy of all the effort. But It doesn't.
Namitha, who has acted in Traffic as Rahman’s daughter, is a welcome find. Shorn
of make-up, she's natural, appealing, and very expressive. It is an all-new Nivin Pauly that you will see in this movie. No introduction or over-the-top romance and he play an actor with conviction.Nedumudi Venu is top-notch. He emerges as the emotional soul of this film with a graceful, restrained performance.
There are some touching situations in the film but then, the storyline itself moves ahead in a rather predictable way.The first half of the film is a rollicking and funny, while the second half drags as Sathyan repeats the gags he has already shown in the first half. The supporting characters look perhaps like those stereotyped ones in any story of this nature.Venu's camera is fine and Ilaiyaraja's tunes are quite good.
Puthiya Theerangal Movie Review Rating - 2/5.
